The Red Wing Soccer Club offers competitive traveling soccer in the fall (U9-U14) and spring/summer (U9-U18). Age groups for team formation is based on standards set by US Youth Soccer. The Red Wing Soccer Club will provide each player a jersey for home games and a jersey for away games to use during the season. Those jerseys are returned at the end of the season. Players are responsible to provide black shorts, purple soccer socks, cleats, and shin guards.
Games are played against other Southern MN Soccer League teams. They could be played in Faribault, Rochester, Mankato, New Ulm, La Crescent, or other communities with clubs that are part of the SMSL. Families should consider the travel obligations before registering. While many games could be played within an hour of Red Wing, the possibility for travel of up to three hours does exist.
Fall Season: August to October
Teams usually play about 6 games during the fall season. Half of the games will be in Red Wing and the other games will involve traveling to other SMSL clubs. 9U/10U participate in academy weekends with two games played over three weekends in a tournament-style event.
Spring/Summer Season: Mid-April through June
Teams usually play 10-12 games during the season. Half of the games will be in Red Wing and the other games will involve traveling to other SMSL clubs.
Practices are typically two to three times per week and are based on coach and field availability. In the spring, the club will offer in-door practices until weather allows teams to practice outdoors.
Team formation is based upon enrollment numbers and the number of coaches at each level. Players may be moved up into a higher age group, but may not be moved down. The Red Wing Soccer Club strives to form teams in a way that provides each player the opportunity to compete at a developmentally appropriate level, have fun, and continue to develop their skills. If there are not a sufficient number of players registered, the club may be unable to form teams for each level. If players have registered, but a team is unable to be formed, they will be refunded their registration fee.
